Tips that might help the general audience
· Dig your well before you need it.
· Get a mentor!
· Get to know who sets up meetings (whether it is networking or special interest meetings) you may get opportunities to:
- Volunteer to help (by-pass admission fees)
- Meet the speakers (build connections)
- Learn about other opportunities within that area of interest
· Do you have an area that you are passionate about and would love to work in or just be involved with?
- Check LinkedIn for groups on that topic – make connections, review posts & blogs.
· Don’t know where to find jobs or contacts for a niche area or career change?
- Use Google search
- Google as if you were the employer and find out where an employer is looking for candidates or help
· Considering a career change?
- Find networking groups, special interest groups or associations. Attend meetings and use web sites to make connections and learn the lingo.
· Reconnect with your contacts. Let them know that you are still searching for a job.
· Review your resume asking, “So what?” for each bullet. That’s what a potential employer is asking about you.
· Networking book worth reading: Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi
